Worship, The Precursor of His Presence

                      Of His Presence

Acts 16:16-32 NKJV

“16 ¶  Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. 17  This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, "These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation." 18  And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And he came out that very hour. 19  But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities. 20  And they brought them to the magistrates, and said, "These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city; 21  "and they teach customs which are not lawful for us, being Romans, to receive or observe." 22  Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods. 23  And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. 24  Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. 25 ¶  But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. 26  Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. 27  And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. 28  But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, "Do yourself no harm, for we are all here." 29  Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30  And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" 31  So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." 32  Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.”

Psalms 22 tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people. When we sing in the darkness...he hears us. When we worship in the Light....He is there

The key to the lock that opens the doors of the supernatural to our lives lies in our willingness to put down our pride, put our priorities in order, and get on our faces before Him.

God is not a commodity that can be bought and sold. His intellect is so far above ours that we fail to comprehend everything that moves His heart. We can only go on the information that we have and that information tells us that everything God does in our lives...every movement that happens through his church....and every facet of our relationship with him is steered by something that most of the Christian world has bumped to the rear of the car and that thing is WORSHIP.

His presence is summoned, His heart is moved by, and His hand is guided by the worship of His people.

The Lie of Insignificance

Exodus 3:11-14 NKJV

But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” So He said, “I will certainly be with you. And this shall  be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.” Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?” And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”

One of the things that keeps us from discovering the dunamis in worship is the “lie of insignificance. “I don’t matter....God will never miss my one voice....Its not that important to me....who am I””.

Moses asked the same question of “Who am I” and God proceeded to explain it to him in no uncertain terms. He told moses....You are the one who will lead your people out of Egypt with my help.....THAT’S WHO YOU ARE!

God, the Bible tells us is no respecter of persons. Many of us translate that to mean that God finds nothing special in us. This is a cleverly manipulated half-truth purported by Satan. It is true that God finds nothing special in any of us....but he finds something special in ALL of us.

No respecter simply means no favoritism or nepotism among his Children....but it never implies that there is something very special about you and your relationship with the Father and the plan he has individually for your life.

Worship opens that door to experience the one on one with God that we can never know outside of worship. I can read every book about George Washington. I can visit all of the museums reflecting his life and I can hear every story what he did in his time on earth. However, I will never know George Washington the way those closest to him knew him those freezing days at Valley Forge. Proximity can never be  replaced by phariseeism.

The Life of worship

Psalms 24:3-10

Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord ? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord , And righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face. Selah Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah

God promises us 70 years on this earth. Some of us throw the dice and get more...others roll snake eyes and check out before their time. It is sad that some go into eternity knowing the NFL roster better than they know their God.  They can quote great business men and politicians better than they can quote the words of Jesus.  They trust Capital One and Prudential the Rock more than they trust The Anointed One and The Rock of Ages.

Worship is not something you is something you are. You are either a worshipper or you are not. A Worshipper cannot wait for their “Date with God”.  A worshipper cannot think of a sermon without a time of worship any more than a connoisseur of fine food would think of having a great steak without the appropriate side dish...A worshipper does not consider His day complete unless he has lifted up the name of His God.

Psalms 24 is a manifold cry from the heart of a worshipper. David here is asking who can be found worthy to ascend the Holy Hill of God?  He responds with...He that has clean hands and a pure heart...someone who has not worshipped idols ( Create in me a clean heart of God and renew a right spirit in me... Psalm 51:10) Then he cries out that those asleep...those slumbering that the King of Glory would come in. He is instructing those who slumber to awaken and adopt a worship life....and in that they will see the Glory of God!

The Legacy of Faith

I Peter 2:4-6 NKJV

Coming to Him as  to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”

Worship is the multivitamin of faith. It contains countless elements that affect our walk with God on every level. It encourages us, it edifies the Body of Christ...Worship is our door to healing and deliverance and it testifies to the unbeliever....opens the door to salvations. When we worship, we are putting feet to our faith.

Jesus said that if no one would worship that God would raise up the very stones....the inanimate....lifeless stones to worship Him. Peter calls us LIVING STONES....a spiritual house designed to offer up spiritual sacrifices. Worship says we not only believe...we’re going to shout it out and testify. His presence shows up when we worship!

The Simple facts are that worship requires an ounce of effort....the real obstacle is the five pounds of obedience it takes to get our flesh to that spot. HOW DO YOU WANT TO BE REMEMBERED?

If we were talking about being remembered as a business man or woman....we would concern ourselves with personal appearance, competency level, and expertise in our field.

Yet so many people are working on a spiritual legacy on this earth that is extremely wanting at best.

Are you pursuing His presence? Your worship life is the first place it will show.

Do you desire for Him to move in your life? Your worship life is the door point for that to occur.

Do you want to see the supernatural that moves through you to heal the sick...bring your family, your world to Christ?  ....Worship turns that key.
