      The Return of Temple Worship

John 4:19-26 NKJV

The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.  You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews.  But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.  God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He. ”

Jesus did so much more here than read a sinner’s mail, he established the economy for worship in the New Testament church.

It is a concept that is so integral to the manifest presence of God in the life of a believer that it is almost unbelievable that we have skimmed over it for 2000 years.

Jesus was at a well...a well himself....asking for water...of which he was living water....who remarked that if you knew who it was asking for a drink you would be asking him for a drink.....and he establishes the ultimate download into our lives, by making us the temples of God that we might contain his Glory that flows in and out of us that through worship, we might see the manifest Glory of God....

The end of religionists

Mark 11:15-19 NKJV

So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. And He would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple. Then He taught, saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’ ? But you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’  ” And the scribes and chief priests heard it and sought how they might destroy Him; for they feared Him, because all the people were astonished at His teaching. When evening had come, He went out of the city.

Moneychangers are funny characters, they change and morph into different looking things. Here in Mark 11, they looked like livestock the Middle Ages; they just came out and sold indulgences for cash. In this time, they sell “the program that works”.

The beginning of revival will also herald the end of religionists. What God will do will so insult and incense the religious that it will literally not know what to do with it. Religion needs a filing cabinet to exist. It has to have a convenient place to put everything it encounters. I.E., The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are filed under “C” for control. Sacraments are filed under  “T” for traditions of men. Religious services are filed under “O” for order...and so on.

Worship has traditionally be placed in the category of preparing the service for the Word....In fact, it is more important than the preaching. It prepares hearts to absorb what is heard. If you are wondering why you feel no depth, you are escaping the full force of God’s wave through your life. It may be that you are not saturating enough to sink into God’s presence and are floating on the surface.

Religion is that thing that never trusts the believer to handle the Spirit of God. It keeps us at arm’s length because if we ever grab hold of God’s presence, religion loses its grip.

The beginning of Holy Spirit Domain

Ephesians 5:15-21 NKJV

See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.  And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.

The ability to receive from God is not a theological marvel, but an act of simple faith. It is as simple as the act of drinking. If you are thirsty, you get something to drink....period.  Here in Ephesians, Paul warns about becoming drunk with wine...drunkenness is the antithesis of fullness in the Holy Ghost. Drunkenness makes you forget...Fullness of the Holy Spirit causes you to recall.

Drunkenness dulls your senses...Fullness of the Holy Spirit Sharpens your awareness.

Drunkenness tears you down.....Fullness of the Holy Spirit builds you up.

Drunkenness destroys your faith....fullness of the Holy Spirit accelerates your faith to stellar levels.

Look at what fullness in the Holy Ghost emits.....songs...Hymns...spiritual songs.  WORSHIP.

It also has the attributes of creating a thankful mitigates strife and encourages harmony among us. Do you really think that Satan likes it when these things happen??? They are a naturally occurring element of what happens when believers allow themselves to become temples of God and allow his Glory to fill the temple.

The manifestation of God's Glory

Acts 16:20-32 NKJV

And they brought them to the magistrates, and said, “These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city; and they teach customs which are not lawful for us, being Romans, to receive or observe.” Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods. And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.” Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.

The era of “religious rock stars” is about done.  God is setting the church free to move according to His Holy Spirit and not according to what is cool.  Instead, we are seeing a generation of believers that are operating on a street level evangelism that doesn’t involve “pharaseeism” as much as it relies upon the full utilization of our temples to bring the spirit of Worship to the world and watch God move in miraculous  proportion.

I love this depiction of Paul and Silas, two Jesus freaks out on the town.  They ruin the profitability of a local fortune teller possessed of the devil by delivering her of her demons...the local magistrates throw the two in jail...and it goes downhill for  their accusers from there.

Enter worship.....Paul and Silas...singing in the midnight hour. They’ve been thrown into solitary confinement so they won’t cause anymore trouble....their feet placed in stocks....They’ve been warned to shut all they do is worship....they sing hymns....they sing....they lift their voices to God....and all heaven breaks loose in the jail.

The great thing about temple worship is you can never be thrown out of the synagogue because the synagogue is in you!  You carry the anointing around inside you....You release it from that point. His power and Glory are available 24/7 /365.  His life and glory and anointing lives inside you....WORSHIP and watch the walls come down around you!
