            Hosting The Presence

             The Return of Power

                                October 6, 2013

Luke 24:45-49 NKJV

And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,  and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.  And you are witnesses of these things.  Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

We just had a light brush with a tropical system and one of the things that crosses our mind when these things come through is losing electrical power. Loss of electrical power presents all sorts of challenges from cooling food to heating our bathing water.

Likewise, a powerless life is one that is frustrating, frightening, and at times confusing. No one likes being out of control...even for a minute.

When Jesus established the church and handed authority over to the Apostles, it was not simply a transfer of management...but the endowment of power that went along with it.

This is why the Lord told them to tarry in Jerusalem until they received the Holy Spirit and His power that accompanied.

Somewhere along the way, the church lost touch with that power which is God’s manifest presence in the church. With His power and His presence all manner of signs, wonders, and miracles are not only possible, they are part of the landscape. The season is returning where His presence will come to those who desire Him and with the Presence....all sorts of amazing things that point to Jesus and His goodness and grace....

The resurrected church

Ephesians 1:20-23 NKJV

which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,  far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to  be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

For decades now, the church has been in a state of hibernation. You find us on street corners all over the world....We speak of days of former glory...we know the stories and the victories. We can quote the battles and the encounters through the ages...but in today’s world, that number is proportionately small compared to the first century church where pieces of cloth and people’s shadows would heal the sick.

Scripture tells us that if we die with him...we shall also live with Him. (2 Tim 2:11) This passage speaks of a place where we are brought in as part of an inheritance by which we receive resurrection power. We have been raised from spiritual death to a place where we sit with Him in heavenly places. He gave the disciples all power....that means Satan has none.

As he is head of the church, Jesus brings with him the resurrection power that can heal, restore, raise from the dead that which has been stolen. When his Presence is welcomed into the church, the Body of Christ becomes a powerful force to be reckoned with against the works of the devil.

The empowered Church

I Corinthians 4:18-21 NKJV

Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you. But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord wills, and I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power. For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power. What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?

Legalism does not work in the empowered church. God’s presence is enough. There is no need for the law...he has already fulfilled it. However, if we try to live by intellect or worldly wisdom, or even pompous ritualism...there is no power in any of it. Paul told the Church at Corinth that we do not have to be puffed up. What God’s presence brings to the table far outweighs the flash of religion.

Have you noticed that religion that displays a need for control, whether it be unbearable legalism or simply disguised guilt, (you didn’t get your missed God) are also the churches where the miraculous...the glorious...the power of God never moves?

The display of the arm of the flesh is usually a multi-symptom of a lack of the presence of God. Where the Spirit of the Lord is THERE IS LIBERTY. (2 Corinthians 3:17). The Lack of God’s presence will bring about the need to compensate with something of our own.

The Miracle Church

Hebrews 2:1-4 NKJV

Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,  God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?

Many of us forget where God has brought us from and that is usually the place where we begin to backslide and lose our fire for God. If you are waiting for revival to restore your walk with God...don’t be foolish. Revival has to happen in your heart before it can ever take root in your world. Revival can go on all around you and you will simply struggle. Critical spirits come out in full force during revival...and those are usually those who were floundering and now cannot make sense out of what God is doing. That person responds with criticism.

God’s church was designed for miracles. If we for one moment kid ourselves into believing that this is about committees and potlucks....we have missed the point. God’s church was intended to be a dispensary of the miraculous. It was designed to operate in the realm of signs and wonders and she was designed to fly at supernatural cruising altitudes.

We were never intended to become a club or a membership roster. We were intended to be a place where shameless exploitation of Satan’s inabilities were commonplace. We were destined to be habitations of God’s Glory! We were made to Host His Presence...Call Heaven to earth....see the Miraculous.
