     Have you stopped Dreaming?

Joel 2:28-29

“28 ¶  "And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. 29  And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.” (Joe 2:28-29 NKJV)

According to your conception of the immense nature of God, these are indeed the last days. We have seen the birth of the church age and its evolution is now becoming full circle. We are in fact returning rapidly to the days of Noah. The debauchery and inconceivable behaviors that man has again amassed to his account are reaching that same critical mass that was present when God rained down fire and brimstone upon Sodom and Gomorrah. The Bible tells the children of God not to despair when we see such things, but instead to look up and receive our help and encouragement from heaven. And in these times, the people of God must know how absolutely important it is to forever keep the fires of hope alive in each of us that we do not succumb to the doom and gloom of the common voice of society, but rise above it in order to complete the important work at hand. Enter visions and dreams. Today, we will especially focus upon dreams. It says Here in Joel 2 that in the last days, the old men (and women) will dream dreams. Dreams differ from visions in that dreams keep alive the fire that fuels visions for greater things. In essence, dreams are the security forces that protect visions. Without the encouragement of the preceding generations, the next in line will begin to feel the futility of the days.  Dreams are those things which God speaks to our hearts in sleep, meditation, prayer, rest, and thought.

God has planted dreams deep in our hearts that they might not be uprooted by the pressures of the day. They are seeds that are shaded from the heat of popular opinion and watered by the hope of heaven. Your dreams are your dreams. God has given you hope for accomplishments in this life and hell’s assignment is to crush those dreams. Never give Satan that power....and never stop dreaming.

Never rule out what God has ordained

Isaiah 55:6-9

Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord , And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord . “For  as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Many times we will stop dreaming because we become discouraged by what we see in front of us. All that is in this world....all that is of the designed to fail...and that includes our flesh. The negativity of thoughts and words in this life are detrimental to dreams.

Eventually, we adopt a mindset that begins to make God substantially smaller at least in His ability to influence the outcome of things in our life. We begin to shake and waver...we begin to feel like we are in this alone. We forget that the ordinance of God is to see us prosper and be in health even as our souls prosper. His Word lives in us even to the measure that the thing which he has begun in our lives long ago, he will be faithful to complete.

There are things that God has promised you. He has promised you  long life...the salvation of your of the things that make for a complete life. He is the author and finisher of our faith...he will complete in you the dreams he has placed in you.

Always pray for open doors and cleared paths

John 16:12-15

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.  However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.  He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.  All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

Clutter is a horrible thing. We humans tend to be stuff collectors. In fact, most of us would have a terrible time were the Lord to tell us to go on the road and not bring sack nor purse. We all have so much stuff! In fact, I’m betting that not many here this morning would admit to it, but we all have a drawer, closet, or in my case...a garage...that needs to be uncluttered badly. You know what clutter is, don’t you? It’s the collection of things through the years that you absolutely needed when you saw it, but it dropped off of the top ten and now you haven’t seen it in years... Where did it go? It became clutter.

Clutter blocks doorways, keeps drawers from opening smoothly and in general gets in the way of everything. Most of us have spiritual clutter. It manifests as things in our mind that block the flow of dreams. It tells us that things are much too complicated, much too messed up for that dream to ever rather than deal with the clutter, we just drop the dream.

This is a major contributor to stopping our ability to dream God dreams. And this is where we pray for open doors! We pray for God to remove the cluttered paths! We ask him to remove the spiritual impulse items that we have amassed from negative events and unsuccessful experiences. God can open door that no one can shut...and he can shut doors that no man can open. Trust him with your dreams and watch your dreams come true.

Prepare your heart for God's path to your dreams rather than your preconceived notions of how things should be happening.

Psalms 18:28-34

For You will light my lamp; The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. For by You I can run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall. As  for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. For who is God, except the Lord ? And who is a rock, except our God? It  is God who arms me with strength, And makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet  of deer, And sets me on my high places. He teaches my hands to make war, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

Much of my generations were the ones immediately following the generation that went through the great depression in the late 1920s and into the 30s.  My grandparents knew first-hand the feeling of not having food on the table for their children. My father was one of those children. Because of that we were brought up by the “pull up your big boy pants” school of parenting. There is nothing worse than the feeling of desperation. Still, most people in this country survived the Great Depression. It was not because of great American was because God’s hand was on this country. His face shone upon our infirmity. His mercy sustained us.

But because of man’s hardness, we have been taught to make our own way...forge our own path...make our own destiny happen. And because of that, we have made a god out of our own ability. God is not simply the giver of our dreams...he is the enabler of our dreams.

If we can dream it, God can facilitate it. But the key element here to remember is that it must be in the hands of God and we must be willing to watch God do it His way. Dreaming is a faith step. It sets a dare against the natural and places trust in the supernatural. If you are ready to see your dream made manifest, you must also be ready to accept how and when God will manifest your dream. We must take the blinders off of ourselves while at the same time taking the restraints off of God to work in our lives. When we say to the mountain, be thou removed...we must never forget who it is that is actually moving the mountain.
